I just finished watching a very motivational video. This video was by a man named Randy Pausch. Paush was a husband, dad to three and a professor at Carnegie who specialized in Virtual Reality. In the Video Paush talks about his childhood dreams and how he worked to accomplish them. Paush also tells us about his terminal illness with cancer and that he was only given three to six months to live.
I was so surprised after he mentioned his cancer and the time he had to live how up beat he still seemed to be. He seemed to be still trying to reach people and show them that no matter what you should try to accomplish all of your childhood dreams. With all his health problems he still seemed as though he was happy with the way his life had gone and that the only thing he was sad about was leaving his family behind.
In Pausch speech he talks about wanting to work for Disney and he even talks about wanting to be in the National Football League. He talks about one of the virtual classes that he has taught, and even mentions he moved his family so they would be closer to his wife family and would be a better thing for them in the long run. I also thought it was so important that he talked about how he tried to meet all his goal and childhood dreams, and how even if he didn't accomplish them they helped shape his life.
I loved this video and I think it will help shape my life in a different direction. This may seem crazy but after watching this video I really hope it will help make me a better person. If we had more inspirational and motavaitional speakers at all colleges and universities I truly believe it would help more students desire to do better.

PLN 1
I really like the Symbaloo, it is a really neat tool to have. Before learning about it in this class I had never even heard of it before. The symbaloo is so interesting I know that after this class is over I will continue to use it. I am even excited about going home so I can show my little sister how to use it. I haven't quite filled up all my boxes but don't worry I have a feeling it won't be long before they are all used up! I am so glad I found out about the symbaloo so I can continue to learn more about it and see what all it can help me do.

The Networked Student
In this video we watched I thought it was very interesting it showed us a very unique way that technology is used today. As a educator we must always be willing to learn new things and with technology in the classrooms that is one of the best ways. Teachers and all educators I feel should try to bring technology into their class to broaden the way the students learn.
Not only did this video show us how to use technology outside the class but in the class as well. Some teachers feel that to learn you must have a pencil and paper. But the truth is that in today's society we do not have to. As we learned when watching the ischool videos we can do anything now with just a phone that we can do with a book pencil and paper with less than half the cost that it is now.
With the help of EDM 310 I feel that I am getting prepared to teach the networked student. I know that I still have a lot to learn and that I have to become a more timely person but with help of Dr. Strange and his staff I know I will get there. I want to be a traditional teacher in someways but I also want to make learning a fun thing for my students as some of my professors and teachers have done for me.
A 7th Grade Personal Learning Enviornment
I was so amazed at what the student learned with her personal learning network. All the information that she needed was right in front of her. In the video she say the she likes to learn this way and I understand why she would say this. When learning if its a fun way to learn we tend to remember it, I remember when I was younger I would sing my spelling words or make a story about the water cycle. I'm excited about being able to show others a exciting and fun way to learn.
The Machine Is Changing Us
I want to start off by saying when I first saw how long this video was I just knew it was going to be boring. But as I was watching I started to realize it wasn't boring and that he made so many good points. I think that technology is what ever you make it and that you should use it to your advantage to make the most out of it. If we look at the negative side of things all the time and never look for answers we might still think if we go to the edge of the world we will fall off.

Blog 5
Eagle Nest Radio & Class Blog
The third graders in this podcast were amazing. You can hear them and the pronounce their words to were they are easily understood. I just learned what a podcast was so they taught me a lot of new things. I have never heard of a podcast and let alone a voice podcast but these 3rd graders quickly showed me otherwise. These audio podcasts were phenomenal and severe as a great example of how to do an audio podcast the correct way.

I think these ideas are amazing that these teachers have come up with. The ways they were using the podcast in the classroom was so amazing to me I don't think I could have come up with some of these unique ways myself. But by seeing the way these teachers and students were using it, it makes me excited about seeing what podcasting holds in store for the future. I hope that one day I will be able to use podcasting in my class.
I think that seeing how useful and such a positive difference the podcasts are making in the classroom. Maybe one day all teachers will be able to implement the idea of podcasting into their classes. Also maybe the students can always have a way to review things they have learned earlier in the year by not only their notes they have but on video.

Mr. Dale showed some amazing ideas on how podcasting could benefit students. I feel that his example of the teacher posting the study guide in a podcast on the class website is a wonderful way to help students be able to review and keep up if they are out of school due to school functions or illness. I never knew how helpful and resourceful a podcast could be when it came to using them in the classroom. Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff
Today I read a very interesting post by Dr. McLeod a professor at Iowa State University. Dr. McLeod and Dr. Joan Hughes established a national technology program for secondary and college education. In his blog "Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff" I thought he had a great approach to the subject his way of saying it left you think. Just because you may have heard a bad thing about technology does not mean that it will be all bad all the time. The world is changing and new inventions being thought of everyday. How can we deny our kids from this when most of them will have jobs that don't even exist today? At the same time I do believe we should give our kids boundaries and limits, because they are for the MOMENT still just KIDS.
The iSchool Initiative
To date this has been my by far most favorite video I have had to watch. I think that the iSchool is a wonderful idea I think it offers so much and much more cost efficient. If every student has access to the world at the palm of their and they know what to do with it I believe will help to make the internet a more safe environment for them because not only will the parents be able to monitor the kids but so will the teachers and school to help them with all the world has to offer and to keep them on the correct track. I believe that the iSchool will not only change the world of school but will help change the world.
I hope that one day the iSchool will be become a reality and that people will be able to see it's benefits. The iSchool has so much to offer with as many students with phones it should not be as hard to get iPhones to all the students.
The Lost Generation
I feel that this was a very, well thought out and put together speech. The things that she said made so much sense and when I first listening to this it made me think that I have heard more than once the things she was saying I pray never come true. When I heard how she reversed the poem it was like a sigh of relief because when she first started to read it the closer to the end she got the more sad I became. But when she started reading it in reverse more she read I started to think how good it was to know that we do determine our future and we can change it as we go along and plan for our future.

This is so neat! For everyone to have never been together this is so amazing. This is one of the many advantages of using the internet and web cameras to bring people together. I hope that one day I can become apart of something like this. Listening and watching this helps me see that anything can be done with a little time and effort.

Project #3
My first blog to read was one by Karl Fisch titled "Math on the Rocks: Skyping with Professor Garibaldi". It was about Mr. Fisch getting in touch with Professor Garibaldi about skyping with his class. Professor Garibaldi uses math for things as adventurous as rock climbing, Mr. Fisch thought it would be a good idea to have Professor Garibaldi skype with his class about using math and learning in the real world. Mr. Fisch decided to come up with some questions to ask the professor to show the students when they will actually have to use math. Mr. Fisch thought that by having someone who is as passionate about math and learning as him get his students more excited about learning math and learning in general as well as show them that learning does not mean having to sit in a class and look at a board.
On my comment to Mr. Fisch I said that I thought what he did was a great way to get his class interested in learning and that by reading what he wrote I wish I was there to hear him say it. I know that it takes time trying to figure out things to help motivate students but thought this was a very unique and creative way to do that.
My second blog that I read by Mr. Fisch was one that he wrote regarding the Denver post. The title of this blog was Dear Denver Post: You are the disappointment. Mr. Fisch was writing about his opinion on an article they wrote saying how returning to school was a disappointment. He stated that many of students are excited about school starting back and that is so true for many students including myself. Although some students would never admit to being excited for school to start, you will hear them say I can’t wait till prom or I’m so ready to attend my first homecoming or even excited about being exempted from their nine weeks test. Mr. Fisch also stated that in his town they have a great community, teachers, students and they are doing important things with everyone. But the Denver post still wrote an article about school being a disappointment, Mr. Fisch was very upset about this article and judging by the comments left he wasn’t the only one.
On my comment to Mr. Fisch I told him that although I am in college I am always excited about going back to school and I'm very sure I'm not alone with that. Instead of them posting about the enjoyment of school and motivating them to continue higher education the Denver post would write such a one sided article. that.

A Vision of Students Today
I really thought that this video was so correct about students have to multitask to make it through the day. Sometimes I feel that most of the things we do in class are pointless and I am only remembering it until it is time to take the test. Another point that was brought out on this video was that some teachers are still using chalk boards to teach, with the rising cost of tuition seem like we would be able to get more up to date technology in class and more information that we will actually use in our life.
If I could add something to this video it would be showing how there are so many things that schools could do to actually help students learn more things about what would help them in there actually major and life. It seems as though school is more about money now than the actually learning experience. Education is something to strive for but if the person that is suppose to be helping you achieve that is not interested and boring how can they expect you to be excited about learning?
Its Not About the Technology
This blog was about being technology literate. The point that learning and teaching is not the same thing really stood out to me in a major way, a teacher could be well educated and can't explain what they know to a student on a level that the student can learn. I know that technology is changing at a rapid rate but we must learn to keep up with it so we won't fall behind. Learning is not a process to where we learn while we get our degree and be done but we must learn and keep learning so that we will not fall behind and keep ourselves up to date with technology as well.
Is It Okay To Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?
Well I'm twenty years old and before I became enrolled in this class I thought I was technology literate, boy was I wrong. Before this class I didn't even know how to make a blog, I see now all I knew how to do was facebook. By me someday being a future educator I now know I must be able to keep up with all the new advances in the world today because without it I will only be hurting my students.
Everything is changing and in the video we watched last week it mentioned most of the jobs that students will have in the future don't even exist today. That is telling me how can a teacher teach someone to prepare for their future if they are still teaching the way they learned when they were a kid? I don't think you can effectively, like the old saying "You must practice what you preach".

These numbers are so astounding to me at the rate that they change. As a professional educator I know now that I have a lot to keep up with. To be a teacher in today's society I must constantly keep learning new things and be willing to learn.

DID YOU KNOW??
I really enjoyed this video it was so many things on it that we notice but don't realize how fast things REALLY are changing. The one fact on how India had more kids graduating with honors than the United States had kids really stuck with me. By no means am I saying that the United States should boost up the kid population as much as China but we as a country should focus more on teaching our kids, and technology rather than a NEVER ENDING WAR. I mean if we are cutting the budget for k-12 and higher education but have money to run another country, its not something wrong with the other country it is us.
I have always been told "take care of home before trying to run someone else house" this is something WE as a country should consider. It really hurt to see stats that say Americans are falling behind but maybe seeing things like this will help us to do better than ever before. Keeping up with technology in the classrooms now is more important than ever before but I know that it is possible if other countries can do it why can't the United States?
MR WINKLE WAKES
This video was really a great one. More often than not I feel like Mr.Winkle did, but fortunately like Mr. Winkle there is always something that we can see or experience that we will be familiar with. This video brought back memories of my first day in middle school and using the internet for the first time and hearing everyone talking about myspace. The world is changing and changing fast but there is always someone that can explain or interpret it for us.
One thing that I heard in this video was that when he walked in the school he knew he was in a school and it made me realize that if everything around us is changing why isn't the way we learn changing? Why isn't the way we teach changing? Maybe this too will change and become a new "sign of the times".
SIR KEN ROBINSON: THE IMPORTANCE OF CREATIVITY
Although this is a very long video it really had some great points to it. We can't convince our kids not to do something the like because they won't "make enough money" or because "it will be too hard to find a job" we should show them that yes there is more than one way of doing things and yes you can do anything you want t do or be. Looking at our society where would we be if there was no art or no music?
People should really think before trying to discourage a child. If there wasn't for mistakes and people thinking outside of the box there would be so many things that would not have come about. If everyone thought the same there would be no need for technology because there would never be anything new.

Until I came to my first night class of EDM 310 I had no idea of all the possibilities there was with using technology in the classroom. What Vicki Davis is doing with her students is so fascinating and such a great thing. Watching this video really has me excited about all the things I am going to learn this semester in EDM 310. The only way to learn new things is to get out there and experince them head on.

About Me
My name is Callie Ramsey I am from a small place known as Wiggins, MS. Some of my favorite things to do include singing and spending time with my family. I did not think I would ever attend South Alabama it just came about one day. My first intentions were to attend Southern Mississippi, but i happened to come to USA day with my god-sister and feel in love with the campus.
Entering the education field has always been something that I wanted to do. When I was younger I would pretend I was a teacher and lecture to my sister and little cousins. While speaking of family one thing that I love to share with people is that I have twenty aunt and uncles and eighty-six first cousins and forty-three second cousins and that is just on my mom's side of the family. I'm pretty sure you can only imagine what the holidays are like.
